CARD Announces January Community Input Sessions for Five-Year Master Plan
January 5, 2026

Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD) will host a series of three Community Input Sessions this January to help shape the future of Chico’s parks. As part of CARD’s 2026-2031 Five-Year Master Plan, these sessions invite the community to give input about what amenities, improvements, and ideas that the community wants to see throughout its local parks.
CARD currently manages six Community Parks; 20th St. Community Park, DeGarmo Park, Hooker Oak Park, Humboldt Ave Skate Park, Sycamore Field, and Veterans Memorial Park, as well as 11 smaller Neighborhood Parks throughout Chico; Chapman Park, Baroni Park, Indigo Park, Oak Way Park, to name a few.
From open fields and picnic areas to playgrounds and walking trails, CARD parks are designed to provide outdoor fun and recreation for all ages.
“We take recreation seriously at CARD,” said Scott Schumann, Parks & Facilities Director at CARD. “We’re striving to continually improve our parks and provide spaces for everyone to find what they need to recreate, rest, recover, or rejuvenate. We love to see the community get the most out of our parks and spaces; whether it’s a child developing a sense of confidence on a playground or families and friends exercising together, we want to bring that kind of joy to everyone in our community. To do that, we need to hear from you. We hope to see a great turnout at these input sessions to imagine what the future will hold for recreation in Chico.”
Each session will focus on parks within a specific area, but input for all CARD-run parks is welcome at any meeting. The public is encouraged to come to whichever session works best for them.
