Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD) is excited to announce its inaugural 4th of July Parade, themed "America and The Freedom to Play." The parade, scheduled for Thursday, July 4th, from 9 AM to 11 AM, will take place in Downtown Chico. This event invites the community to celebrate our commitment to outdoor spaces and recreation.

"We are excited to host our first 4th of July Parade, celebrating the essence of American freedom and the joy of playing outdoors," said Annabel Grimm, General Manager at CARD. "This parade will highlight the importance of our local parks, recreational activities, green spaces, and community spirit."

To further mark this momentous occasion, CARD is thrilled and honored to announce that Arya Pocock, recently named Pacific Region 'Youth of the Year' by the Boys & Girls Club of America, will be the Grand Marshal of our 4th of July Parade. Arya is a remarkable high school student who exemplifies the transformative impact that the Boys and Girls Clubs make nationwide. This incredible youth leader, forging an extraordinary path to make a difference not just in our community, but in the world, is the perfect choice to lead the inaugural parade.

The parade is open to entries that are patriotic, family-friendly, and showcase the values of our community, including the importance of local parks, recreational spirit, greenery, nature, community gardening, environmental stewardship, and local heroes.

CARD is also calling for volunteers to help make this event a success. Volunteers will receive a free event t-shirt, entry to grand prize giveaways, and exclusive CARD swag. "Join us in making history and be part of this special day," added Erin Horst, Public Outreach Specialist at CARD. "Your support will help create an unforgettable experience for everyone involved."

Applications to participate in the parade are due by June 14th. Interested parties can sign up at www.chicorec.gov/parade-volunteer and www.chicorec.gov/parade-entries. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of a memorable celebration of community and freedom!
