Experience the enchantment of City of Wonders, a world’s fair themed fundraiser gala for Chico Area Recreation & Park District’s (CARD) future Aquatics Recreation Facility and celebration of our 75th birthday! This gala will be on Friday, September 22nd at 6 PM at the Lakeside Pavilion in California Park. Tickets are on sale at www.chicorec.com/cityofwonders.
Established in 1948, CARD turns 75 this September, celebrating its long-lasting service to the Chico community. Throughout its tenure, CARD has provided a multitude of recreation programs to the Chico area, including athletics for all ages, educational classes, summer camps, and more. In addition to the community offerings, CARD manages and cares for more than 12 community and neighborhood parks, four community centers, one swimming pool, the Chico Creek Nature Center, and two wedding venues. CARD provides free community events such as Kite Day, Spring Jamboree, and Movies in the Park.
Chairman of the CARD Board of Directors Michael McGinnis reflected on the impact CARD has had on the community. McGinnis has been a board member since 2018, and his current term will last until 2026.
“It’s almost impossible to measure the impact CARD has had on the community over 75 years,” said McGinnis. “Countless people have fond memories of participating in recreation at CARD or enjoying CARD parks throughout their entire lifetime.”
This gala is a way to celebrate CARD’s impact on the community, and also fundraise for exciting amenities at the future Aquatics Recreation Facility. CARD general manager Annabel Grimm was excited about the possibilities.
“The new Aquatics Facility will be an amazing asset for our community and the region at large. It’s features like these that ensure our community will continue to thrive,” said Grimm.
Join us for an extraordinary evening with a culinary tour around the world, a silent auction full of treasures, music by the Chico Community Band, and live aerial silk and fire performances. The event will culminate in the final reveal of the Aquatics Recreation Facility conceptual design.
