CHICO, CA — The Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD) invites the community to celebrate a true local legend as Tennis Court #1 at Community Park is officially renamed the Jerry Brayton Court.

Join CARD on Thu, Apr 30 at 2 PM at Community Park (1900 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Pkwy, Chico) as they celebrate Jerry Brayton’s 24-year legacy of teaching, mentoring, and building community through tennis.

A lifelong Chico resident, Jerry became a familiar and welcoming presence at Community Park, often found on Court 1 seven days a week, racquet in hand and ready to rally. Over the years, Jerry has given thousands of lessons, helping beginners find their footing and inspiring players of all ages to grow their love for the game.

To recognize his dedication, CARD is proud to rename Court 1 as the Jerry Brayton Court. This tribute celebrates the energy, care, and passion Jerry poured into the Chico community for more than two decades.

“Jerry’s impact goes far beyond tennis,” said Erin Gonzales, CARD Program & Staff Development Manager. “He created a place where people connected, grew, and found joy in the game. His legacy will live on in every serve, rally, and match played at Community Park.”

Community members, former students, friends, and family are all invited to attend the dedication and help celebrate the lasting mark Jerry has made.
