CARD’s Annual Kite Day Returns April 12, 2026

CHICO, CA — Get ready to look up, Chico! The Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD) invites the community to its annual Kite Day on Sunday, Apr 12, from 12–3 PM at Community Park.
This free, high-flying tradition brings families, friends, and neighbors together for an afternoon of fresh air, open space, and sky-high fun. Each year, hundreds of colorful kites take flight, creating a joyful scene that’s as fun to watch as it is to join.
Whether you’re a seasoned kite flyer or giving it your first go, Kite Day makes it easy to jump in. Guests are welcome to bring their own kite or decorate and launch one of the free kites available while supplies last.
Beyond the kites, there’s plenty to explore. Enjoy live music, grab a bite from local food trucks, or take advantage of everything Community Park has to offer, including playgrounds and sports courts.
“There’s something really special about Kite Day. It’s one of our longest-running events,” said Lindsey Barrett, Public Outreach Specialist for CARD. “We’re so excited to continue this iconic Chico event and see our community come together and get outside.”
Attendees can also pick up a free 2026 commemorative Kite Day button and take advantage of a free bike valet provided by Chico Velo, making it easy to ride in and enjoy the day.
