Foley Sound Design

Foley Sound Design
Are you interested in sound design? Join us for a one day spring workshop where students will explore the art of foley. In this hands-on session, middle to high school students will dive into the process of creating and recording sound effects for film, video, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality. Working in groups of 2–3, students will collaborate to produce foley audio for a pre-created short film. Throughout the workshop, participants will learn foundational sound design concepts, microphone handling, and audio capturing and editing techniques guided by experienced filmmakers, teachers, and student mentors. Using a variety of microphones and recording devices, students will record and edit sounds in sync with on-screen action. Everything from footsteps and clothing rustle, to environmental ambience. By the end of the workshop, each team will have created and integrated at least 25–30 unique Foley sound effects into a completed short film, gaining hands-on experience in the art and science of sound for storytelling.
