*Which session should my 3rd grader register for?
Session placement for 3rd graders depends on your child’s maturity level and comfort with outdoor and basic survival skills. Our 1st–3rd grade session is 1.5 hours long and focused more on exploration, making it a great option for younger or newer explorers looking for more of a relaxed outdoor experience. The 3rd–5th grade session runs for a full 2 hours and is designed for participants who are ready for longer activities, focused skills lessons and more rigourous outdoor experiences.
Park Survival Club (3rd-5th grade)
This Club is designed for kids who are serious about learning foundational survival skills—ready to learn, stay focused, tackle hands-on challenges, and put their knowledge to the test.
Each week, participants will set out to explore the wild spaces around the Chico Creek Nature Center — uncovering hidden trails, spotting local wildlife (and meeting the animals that live at the Nature Center!), and learning essential survival skills like navigation and shelter building. Participants will also practice real-world outdoor skills, including identifying plants and natural materials, testing their cordage and rope techniques, and applying what they’ve learned during an ultimate scenario day that wraps up the session. Through hands-on activities, team challenges, and immersive wilderness experiences, every session offers a new adventure that builds confidence, strengthens resilience, and deepens their connection to the great outdoors.

Each week, participants will set out to experience the park and natural areas around the Chico Creek Nature Center in a whole new way. Explorers might create their own nature journal, observe the rhythms of local wildlife, or spend time getting to know the resident animals at the Nature Center. Activities center on discovery—engaging the senses, encouraging curiosity, and helping participants notice the small wonders of the outdoor world. Whether it’s a creative nature project, a guided walk, or a playful group activity, every session offers a fresh perspective on the landscapes around them.Â
